Billy Smith
Security Manager
Billy Smith oversees the safety of the entire facility. He manages contracted guards and works with various entities to coordinate parking services and also monitors and assists with all deliveries to the center. He arranges availability, when needed, from police, fire and emergency medical service agencies, and maintains communications with the Knoxville police and fire departments and federal agencies for any necessary safety precautions.
Smith began working at the Convention Center in 2002. His security career started in Knox County Sessions Court, and he has more than 20 years of experience in private security, including working for criminal and civil lawyers and a collections’ agency. He assisted with investigations and served subpoenas, court summons and divorce decrees. Smith also has served as a special police officer for the Knoxville Civic Coliseum and Auditorium, assisting with traffic and parking enforcement and security.
He is a certified trainer for the American Heart Association with proficiency in adult/child/infant CPR, AED and first aid and has training in the handling of blood-borne pathogens.
Smith, a Knoxville native, has been an amateur radio operator for more than 15 years.
